Virginia Suzanne Spence, 65, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at KU
Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
Virginia was born September 17, 1958 to James and Virginia Wolfenden in Chicago, IL. She
spent her childhood in Midlothian, IL until the family moved to Cape Fair, MO in 1970. There she
would spend her teenage years working in the family restaurant on Table Rock Lake.
In 1979 she married Steven L. Spence. They would come to have 3 children together, Shannon,
Adam, and in more recent years, Rose. The two divorced in 2012. Virginia never remarried.
Virginia worked all of her life and was a very skilled bookkeeper. In the 1990's she opened an
antique and craft boutique; that was a love that she shared with her dad. Later in life she went
into property management and continued in that line of work until eventually her health
problems made it impossible for her to work.
She enjoyed crafting, especially crochet and rag crochet. She loved Elvis and had never been
more excited than she was on the trip to Graceland.
Virginia was preceded in death by her father, Jim Wolfenden, her mother, Virginia Wolfenden,
her brothers, Mickey Wolfenden and Mike Wolfenden and her sister, Rosanne Hogan.
She leaves behind her three children, Shannon, Rose, and Adam Spence, her three
grandchildren, Trent, Lilly, and Paisley, her older sister, Mary Malone and older brother, Jimmy
Wolfenden.
A memorial service will be held November 10, at 4:00pm at Jones Funeral Home.
