W. Ruth (Carter) Huguley, 92, of Bloomfield, Connecticut, completed her earthly journey and entered eternal rest on June 29, 2025. Born Willie Ruth Carter on January 31, 1933, in Fairfax, Alabama, she was the beloved daughter of the late General and Jesse Mae (Jones) Carter. Raised and educated in Chambers County, Alabama, Ruth carried with her the values of faith, family, and community that would define her life's journey.
In 1953, Ruth married the love of her life, James C. Huguley. The young couple migrated to Connecticut in 1954 with their infant daughter, Phyllis, and set roots in the city of Hartford. The young family soon grew with the birth of their son, Jeffrey, and together they built a life full of love and legacy.
Ruth accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and remained a faithful servant throughout her life. She was a devoted and longtime member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Windsor, CT (formerly of Hartford), where she served on the Senior Missionary Board, Usher Board, and participated in Sunday School, BTU, and Vacation Bible School.
She was also a proud member of Sigma Phi Lambda Sorority, where she gave of herself through the Scholarship Committee and Bereavement Committee-thoughtfully delivering care baskets to sorority sisters and residents in convalescent homes.
Ruth retired in 1991 from the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles as a Motor Vehicle Driver Improvement Assistant, after many years of dedicated public service.
A woman of grace and strength, Ruth found joy in life by doing what she loved most -spending precious time loving on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, preparing meals for her family and fellowship gatherings with her church family and sorority sisters. She also had a special love of golf, one of her greatest passions.
Ruth will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend-whose kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on those who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, James C. Huguley; her children, Phyllis Huguley-Harris (Milton) and Jeffrey Huguley; beloved grandchildren, Ariel and Jordan James, and Ashley and Blaine Blake Huguley; great-grandchildren, Amir and Cristofer Cousin, Khalila Houghton, Cristin Blake, Ava Cooper, Easton, and Amina Williams; siblings, Sandra McCullough, Gregory Carter (Audrey), Ferrellous Carter, and Tawanda Carter; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Gilliam (Dennis) and Laurianetta Huguley; nieces and nephews, Glenn, Lee, Heidi, Maurice, and Raecine; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.
Besides her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by three brothers, Jessie Carter, General Carter Jr., and Adolfus Carter, and one sister, Emma Louise Carter.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 10-11, with A Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am at Hopewell Baptist Church, 280 Windsor Ave., Windsor
Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 30 Mountain Rd., Bloomfield, Connecticut
