Walter Morrison

Walter "Sonny" Morrison, 86, of Mitchell, SD, died Thursday, October 3, 2024, at his home under home hospice care. A private family graveside service will be held at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell.
Walter Franklin Morrison was born March 18, 1938, to Floyd Sr. and Myrtle (Davis) Morrison in Mitchell, SD. Sonny farmed his whole life north of Mitchell, including custom farming and hauling hay across many states. He also joined the National Guard and worked in Allis Chalmers business with his brothers for a time.
Sonny married Schirley Jonnassen on October 11, 1958. To this union, three daughters were born, Peggy, Tammy, and Patty.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Schirley; daughters, Peggy (Wayne) Stunes, Tammy Morrison, and Patty Morrison all of Mitchell; grandchildren, Jesse (Ashley Stager) Stunes and Jamie Young; great-grandchildren, Jerriq, Mia Young, and Levi Young Jr.; sisters, Dee DeJong of Craig, CO, Shirley Bowman of Mitchell, Beverly Perry of Spearfish, SD, Karen (Dave) Jorgenson of Mitchell, and Cheryl (Greg) Deis of Destrehan, LA; brothers, Floyd Jr. (Shirley), Darwin "Butch" (Jean), and Lloyd (Jane); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Glen and Evelyn Jonassen, brother, Douglas Morrison; sisters, Evelyn Walters, Mary Doering, Darlene Knutson, and Carolyn Morrison; great-granddaughter, Abby Stunes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leland Walters, Don DeJong, Eugene Doering, Marion Knutson, Samuel Perry, Dean Bowman, and Garry & Pat (Jonnassen) Thompson; niece, Vicky Knutson; and nephews, Joey Morrison and Matt Knutson.
