Walter V. Sprenger Sr., age 82, of Cape Coral, FL. passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday March 23, 2025. Born on April 7, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan. Walter was a devoted husband, loving father and a cherished grandfather/great-grandfather.
Walter spent his life in public service, first serving in the U.S. Navy and transitioning to a career in law enforcement. During the course of his career, which spanned over thirty years, Walter was proud to protect and serve the communities of Wixom, Michigan, Mason County, Michigan, Holly, Michigan and Walker, Michigan. If you asked Walter on what he was most proud of during his time in law enforcement, it would have been his tenure as the Police Chief for the city of Walker and his work in community policing programs, seeing the positive impact within local schools and the community.
Walter was an avid bowler for most of his life. He met his true love Cindy at Lincoln Lanes, in Walker, Michigan on a Tuesday night mixed league and from that point for the past 40 years they have been inseparable. He was loved for his sense of humor and jokes to which you couldn't help but laugh at. Walter loved being surrounded by his dogs; which after his wife, kids and many grandkids were his absolute pride and joy. He also loved to cook and bake, continuing family traditions especially during the holidays and loved passing on those tradition(s) to his children and grandchildren. If you drove by any of their homes over the years, Walter always made sure they had the best-looking lawn on the block and loved taking care of his flowers. After dealing with 'one too many Michigan winters', Walter and Cindy relocated to Cape Coral, Florida in 2001.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Jane Sprenger; sister's Pattie, Barbara, Joan, Cathy, Sharon and Susie and brother Kenny.
Walter will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 40 years, Cindy Sprenger (Wiersma), 4 children; Barbara (Jason) Wynsma, Walter (Rebecca) Sprenger Jr., Tina-Marie (Kirk) Wohlfield and Brittany (Michael) Goossens; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; siblings Larry Sprenger, Michael (Jan) Sprenger, Theresa Watson and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
