Walter J. Styer

Walter J. Styer, 90, of Downingtown, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Sarah M. Popjoy Styer, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.
Walter was born on June 1, 1934 in Eagle, Pa. He was the son of the late Walter S. Styer and Alice Walton Styer. He was raised on a farm in Upper Uwchlan Township and lived his entire life in the Township. He was a lifelong member of Windsor Baptist Church in Eagle and served for many years as a Deacon. He also served his community as an Upper Uwchlan Township Supervisor for thirty years because he cared about his neighbors and the community that was his home.
Walter was an entrepreneur owning a trucking business for many years and for the past 25+ years, a retail propane business bearing his name, Styer Propane. He cared about all of the people that worked with him and called them his friends. He was an avid football and baseball fan and enjoyed going to Phillies games with his sons and grandsons. In his later years, he loved working in his garden raising wonderful vegetables for his family to enjoy and to share with others.
Most importantly, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was married to his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Sarah, for seven decades. They were inseparable, even from their earliest childhood days spent at a one room schoolhouse on Milford Road through graduation at Downingtown High School. It was a one of kind love story.
Walter loved the Lord, and he loved and provided for his family. He leaves a legacy of devotion, kindness, and love that he shared with future generations during his lifetime. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his children, Sandra S. Barth (Robert P.), Randall W. Styer (Karalee), Carole C. Eberwein (Bruce) and Craig A. Styer (Michele) and by a brother, Malcolm J. Styer (Jutta). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Stephanie, Eric, Steven, Sandra, Christina and Michael and by 18 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert H. Styer.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Windsor Baptist Church, 213 Little Conestoga Road, Downingtown, PA 19335. Family and friends will be received from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
Interment was held privately with the family at Windsor Baptist Church Cemetery.
