Wanda Jean Abbott left this world to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, Billy, on Monday, February 3, 2025.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11:00 from Prattville Memory Gardens with Pastor Ben Richey officiating and Prattville Memorial directing.
Jean was born in Gardendale, Alabama, on April 24, 1948, and grew up in the Verbena area of Chilton County, Alabama, with her parents and seven siblings. Jean attended school in Verbena and graduated from Verbena High School in 1967. Jean met Billy Roger Abbott in 1967 and were soon married on December 22, 1967. Billy enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968, which led to a 20-year military career, not just for him, but for Jean as well as a supportive spouse. After serving a year in Vietnam, Billy returned to Jean in the United States, and they were stationed at Columbus, Mississippi, where Jean gave birth to one son. After serving another year in Thailand, Billy returned to the U.S. and they were stationed at Alexandria, Louisiana. In 1975, Billy, Jean, and their son, Lance, were transferred overseas to Okinawa, Japan, where they lived for two years, before moving again to Valdosta, Georgia. Five years later, they were on the moving again and sent for their final tour of duty to Madrid, Spain for four years. Billy and Jean moved back to Alabama upon his retirement, settling in Prattville, Alabama, in 1988. Jean began a new career working at the Base Exchange on Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery, and later at Belk's Department Store in Prattville until her retirement in 2010.
Jean was a wonderful wife and mother and always loved her large extended family. She made a point to always be there for them whenever she was needed and truly had a servant's heart. Jean was a southern lady through and through with a kind, caring soul that meant the world to everyone she came in contact with, whether it was in Prattville or the many places she had lived in the world.
Jean Abbott is preceded in death by Lewis Glenn Gulledge (father); Dorothy Frances Gulledge (mother); Billy Roger Abbott (husband); Jack Edwin Gulledge (brother); Annie Mae Kline (sister); and Dorothy Glenn Young (sister).
Jean Abbott is survived by her sisters Sandra Morgan (Larry), and Nancy Meank (Carey) and her brothers James "Sonny" Gulledge, and Ray Gulledge (Loida). Jean is also survived by Lance Abbott (son); Jennifer Saville Abbott (daughter-in-law) and Taylor Elizabeth Abbott (granddaughter) as well as many nieces and nephews.
She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Ms. Jean was one of my first lawn care customers when I began my business. I enjoyed the conversations we had on her front porch every time I was there on her property. I will definitely miss the kindhearted conversations about life, family, and the oppressive heat and humidity in the summer time. She truly was a great and loving person that I will miss dearly.

Jean Was an absolute great neighbor. We talked and visited often before she got so sick. I also had the privilege of meeting some of her siblings and they were always so pleasant to be around. I will miss her greatly.
