Wanda Millie Shields Naylor
Beloved wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, and
great-great-grandma Wanda S. Naylor died on May 16, 2023.
Wanda was born on December 25, 1921 to James Shields and Millie Shields. Raised on the farm in South Jordan, she married her childhood friend and sweetheart Roy Naylor on May 9, 1941.Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple. These two farm kids left the little town the day after they married and went to California where Roy had acquired a new job. He was drafted into the Army Aircorp on the day their first born came into the world. After the war, they eventually made it back to good old South Jordan where they personally built their home from a scrapped section of a military hospital. There they raised three children. Those children had very happy childhood years, and had all they needed because of their parents. Wanda had many skills and worked several jobs. She and Roy remained connected to their farming roots and purchased a farm in Dayton, Idaho where friends and family enjoyed hard work, good visits, and fun.
Wanda served in several callings in church. Later in life, she was a temple worker and also a Docent, or tour guide, at the South Jordan Gale Center until the age of 90. Wanda has endured many trials in her life, too numerous to mention here. She has seen and endured things that have contributed to her strength, wisdom, and unmatched empathy for others. It seems that she was always in the kitchen, providing food and snacks for anyone that stopped by. She has literally given up her own plate to feed a friend or farm hand. She is gracious, kind, and has a deep love for others. Wanda cherished every moment she spent with her family and friends. She is known far
and wide for her keen memory. Perhaps her memory was so incredible because she valued the important things in life and spent time thinking about them. She could tell you every name and birthday of her 60 descendants, and just about everyone else she knew on this planet! Wanda's example has taught us to be grateful for even the smallest of favors. And to realize that we should be grateful for all that we have, even if we don't have much. She said "Thank You, Thank You" often! So many people have been uplifted and blessed by simply being in her presence. She was a big Utah Jazz fan and even liked to watch a game when her eyes went bad. Making people laugh and smile was one of her gifts. Wanda loved to visit with family, friends, and even people she didn't know. She never met a stranger. People were drawn to her, and revitalized by her warm spirit.
Wanda is survived by her three children, James (Karen) Naylor, Joyce (Richard) Egbert, Lynn (Connie) Naylor, 10 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren. And many more that claimed her as "Mom" or "Grandma". She is survived by her little sister Maxine Clark, her Sister-in-Law Fran Applegate, and an unofficially adopted daughter LeAnn Davis.
She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Roy, who died in 1995. They were married 57 years. She was also preceded in death by, well, a lot of people. After all, she was 101 years old!
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, May 25, 2023 11:00 a.m. at the River Ridge 10th Ward LDS Chapel. 1409 W. Shields Lane,
South Jordan, Utah. Friends and family may call from 10:00 until 10:45 on that day. A viewing and visitation will also be held on Wednesday, May 24 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the same location.
