Warren James DeBree
September 22, 1947 – August 28, 2024
Warren James DeBree, 76, a cherished Vietnam Veteran, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, at Hackensack Meridian Hospital in Brick, NJ. Warren's life was marked by his profound commitment to his family, his country, and his community, leaving behind a legacy rich with accomplishments and warm memories.
Warren is survived by his sons, Gregory and Matthew; daughter-in-law, Kendra; grandchildren, Emma and Elliot; and brothers, Bob, Jeff, Donald, and John. He was a beloved uncle to Sean and Serena, and a friend to many. He was preceded in death by his brother Chuck Foth, mother Elizabeth (aka Betty) Peyton, and father, former Woodridge police officer Warren DeBree.
Warren was the eldest of six boys born in Woodridge on September 22, 1947. Drafted at 18, he served bravely in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Returning home, Warren embarked on a distinguished career at Bell Labs and later as a telecommunications regional manager for AT&T Lucent Technologies.
Warren's charisma and charm were unparalleled, possessing a laugh that would light up any room and a knack for making lasting connections, whether in a grocery store line or while out on one of his many adventures. He was always ready with a joke or a helping hand, deeply committed to aiding those in need.
An avid outdoorsman, Warren's love for nature was profound. He spent countless hours hiking, camping, biking, and fishing, often volunteering at the Woodland Wildlife Refuge, where he developed a special fondness for raccoons. His skills as a handyman were well-known, and he took great joy in woodworking and home improvement projects. His passions also included photography and metal detecting, always pursuing the next great adventure.
After retiring, Warren spent 15 years in Johnsburg, NY, near Lake George, before returning to New Jersey to help care for his mother and then settling in Toms River. His final years were spent surrounded by the natural beauty he loved so dearly, and by the family and friends who will miss him immensely.
Warren's legacy is one of laughter, courage, and an unwavering spirit of generosity. He leaves behind a world brighter for his presence.
Arrangements were entrusted to Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Rt. 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
