Warren Young, Jr. Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Warren Young Jr on the evening of June 10, 2025 at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, IL at the age of 82. He passed peacefully with family by his side, holding his hands, and comforting him.

Warren Jr was born on March 30, 1943 to Warren Young, MD and Dorothy Young (nee Johnson) in Chicago, IL.

Warren grew up in the Roseland neighborhood, and attended Fenger High School, just as his father did. At Fenger, Warren excelled at tennis, was a member of the National Honor Society, and was involved in student council. Following high school, Warren went to North Park College in Chicago, where he received a bachelor's degree in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry.

Warren was a standout tennis player. At Fenger, he was two-time City of Chicago Champion and captain of the team, and at North Park College, he was multi-year MVP of the team.

Warren began his career as an educator, teaching math and science at Central Junior High in Mt Prospect, and then at Maine East High School in Park Ridge. After some graduate school work, Warren transitioned to a career in banking where he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Sears Bank, and Harris Bank. After which, he returned to education where he taught science at Carmel High School in Mundelein, and concluded his career teaching Chemistry at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook. Warren had a passion for teaching and loved connecting with his students. Some of his happiest and most meaningful years were when he was in the classroom. He was a dedicated educator at heart. When he retired, his former students filled his briefcase with letters of gratitude and congratulations.

Warren met his only wife, Patricia Young (nee Clary), MD, at North Park College, and were married for 30 years. They had three sons: Warren III, Peter, Patrick, MD, and raised their family in Northbrook. They were members of the Village Presbyterian Church of Northbrook, which was a central pillar of their family life. Warren was an avid reader, enjoyed coaching his sons' soccer teams and helping them with their homework, playing tennis, and cheering on Chicago's sports teams - especially his beloved White Sox. Warren also loved dogs. His childhood dog, Toy, held a special place in his heart.

Warren treasured the lifelong friendships formed at Fenger High School. The group of guys played "penny ante" poker games for 65 years. Along with holiday parties, birthdays and other celebratory life events, these get-togethers were the glue that kept them close all those years.

Warren lived his final years at Covenant Living in Northbrook. His wonderful Covenant Living caregivers, as well as the medical and nursing staff at Glenbrook and Evanston Hospitals, frequently commented on how much they liked caring for him, and how nice and kind he was. His gentle nature, kindness and caring toward others was his true character.

Warren is survived by his three sons, Warren III (Kristin), Peter, and Patrick, MD; his granddaughter Emery; his cousins Leslie McLain (nee Young) and her son Patrick (Melissa) and family, Janet Cameron (nee Young) (Rick) and their son Eric (Amy) and daughter Charlotte (Rob) and their families, Rob Erickson (Lenore) and his family, and other cousins; and lifelong friends Scott Hillstrom (Mary Ann) and Bill Stall (Annemarie). Warren Jr is predeceased by his parents Warren, MD and Dorothy.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 23 at 1pm at the Village Presbyterian Church, 1300 Shermer Ave, Northbrook, IL.
