Waunita M. D'Attilio age 83, of Derby, Iowa passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Corydon Specialty Care Center in Corydon, Iowa.
Waunita was born on May 22, 1940, in Garden Grove, Iowa, the daughter of James Dean and Esther (McKibbon) Williams. She was raised in Garden Grove and attended the local schools, graduating with the class of 1958. Waunita was united in marriage to Jerry D'Attilio on April 20, 1962, in Garden Grove. The couple made their home in the Derby area where Waunita helped on the family farm. She enjoyed her flowers, watching basketball and football and cheering on the San Francisco 49ers. She also enjoyed her Red Hat Club and worked as a cook at the Derby Restaurant. Waunita was a member of the Last Chance Christian church.
Waunita is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jerry D'Attilio of Derby, Iowa, her children; Tony (Ann) D'Attilio of Derby, Iowa, Linda Kirby of Ankeny, Iowa and Scott D'Attilio of West Des Moines, Iowa, her grandchildren: Riley Kirby of Des Moines, Iowa, Zy D'Attilio and Mariah D'Attilio of Derby, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, George Williams and Ellen Faye Golly.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 10:30 am at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until the service time on Monday. Burial will follow at the Goshen Cemetery near Derby. A memorial has been established to Alzheimer's Research and contributions can be given to or left at the funeral home. Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton is honored to care for and minister to the D'Attilio family at this time.
