Wayne had a passion for his favorite sports teams including the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and Michigan State Spartan football and basketball and sports always took priority on the family television. He was a high school athlete, especially talented as a baseball pitcher and once had twelve strike outs in 7 innings, setting a school record that lasted for many years. He was a lifelong golfer, had two holes in one, and enjoyed many golf trips with his golf league friends, "the guys'" and has played many golf courses across the country while traveling. This past summer, he shot an 81 on his golf league night. As a child, Wayne was an excellent tap dancer. He took a city bus from Holt to downtown Lansing for his tap lessons by himself and once danced with Peg Leg Bates at the Lansing Civic Center.
Along with Connie, he created many special memories for his family including summer times spent at The Dole cottage at Douglas Lake near Pellston, MI, as well as many family vacations that included his sister Kay & husband Dave's beach house in Sandbridge Beach, VA a family place in Panama City Beach, Florida, & his daughter's home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Mimi and Poppy also enjoyed special summer trips with their granddaughters including Kentucky, Washington DC, South Dakota and Niagara Falls.
Wayne had a way of making other people feel important and heard, no matter who they were, and made a lot of friends over the years in the Holt and the Lansing area. He always had a joke to tell and was very special to many people. He was a devoted husband, Dad and Poppy and all of his girls meant the world to him. As a family, we will always be grateful to have had him as ours and we could not be more proud of the true character and special man he was. He will be forever in our hearts and we will carry all that he instilled in us forever.
The pallbearers are Tommy Stornant, Bill Weinman, Nick Stornant, Rock Stornant, Ray Stover and Curt VanAvery.
