ASPLIN, Wendell Glen  71 years young, of Lennon, died Friday, June 20, 2003 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor J.D. Landis officiating. Interment will be held 11 AM Monday, June 30, 2003 at Evergreen Cemetery, Westlake, OH. Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 PM Saturday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation will also be held 12:30 until time of service Sunday at the church. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Sloan Museum Historical Archives. Wendell was born December 11, 1931 in Royal Oak. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Michigan State University and received his Masters Degree in Social Work in 1962. Wendell was assistant director of the United Way, Pontiac and Director of the United Way, Lafayette, IN. He then became a realtor with Chamberlain and Ralph Manuel. Wendells great love was his homestead, Asplin Farms where he moved in 1980. He built his cider mill in 1972 and spent several years entertaining folks with his country music and apple cider. His family lovingly referred to him as the Cider Baron. In 1979, he began his Country and Gospel Music Festival, which has gained in popularity to this day. He was involved in the Sloan Museum in Flint and Center Stage in Swartz Creek. Wendell leaves: brother, Charles and sister-in-law, Mary of Washington State; two nieces; one nephew; one great-niece; one great-nephew.
