William "Craig" Fromme passed away in Christiana Hospital surrounded by family on January 25th after fighting liver cancer. He was 75 years old.
Craig was born in Salisbury, Maryland, and later moved to Seaford, Delaware. It was there that he would cultivate many life-long friendships. Craig was active in sports playing both varsity baseball, and soccer at Seaford High School.
Craig would attend the University of Delaware where he majored in Political Science, and would meet the love of his life Sue; to whom he was married for forty-seven years. He later worked for the State of Delaware for nearly four decades as a Juvenile Probation Officer. He was able to have a positive impact on countless lives of troubled teens, and was awarded Employee of the Year in 1999 through DYRS. Craig also created an internship program with the University of Delaware; which led to his receipt of the Alumni Achievement award in 2022 through the College of Arts and Sciences. In his twilight years Craig dealt poker at Delaware Park for a dozen years; laughing, joking, and enjoying every minute of it.
Craig was known for his love of sports, answering to the moniker "Coach." He coached multiple roller hockey teams to league championships, and coordinated the City Agency Basketball League which was sponsored by the Wilmington Parks and Recreation from 1980 – 2000. Craig organized what was later recognized as the first fantasy football league in the US, and was a true Eagles fan.
Craig was predeceased by his parents, Ronald and Myrtle Fromme, and by his brother, David Fromme. He is survived by his wife Sue and two sons: Christopher Joel; and Jonathan Bret, his wife Jennifer, and Craig's beloved grandchildren Ryder and Andy. Craig loved his sons and said that all parents hope to live long enough to help guide their children on a positive path; he was glad he was able to do so.
A viewing will be held on this coming Saturday, February 1st from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 E. Main Street, Middletown, DE, 19709. A brief service will be followed by a reception at The Edge 18, 1 E. Whittington Way, Middletown, DE, 19709.
