William Jacob Gruhn, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, at Oliver Woods Assisted Living. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the First Baptist Church, 901 E. Grand River Rd., Laingsburg, MI 48848. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Pastor Steve Brown will officiate the service. Interment immediately following at Reed Cemetery, Victor Twp.
Born on September 13, 1939, in Lansing, Michigan, to William B. and Harriet E. (Kinsey) Gruhn. William, fondly known as Bill to his friends and family, was raised in Lansing, he attended Sexton High School, where he was known for his friendly demeanor. Following high school, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. After his military service, he continued his education at Michigan State University, where he combined his love for nature and science, earning a degree that would set the stage for his lifelong career. He married the love of his life, Ruth E. Andriekus on June 15, 1963 in Lansing.
Bill devoted 33 years to the State of Michigan as a fishery biologist, a role that perfectly suited his passion for the outdoors and conservation. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to the American Fishery Society, where he was an active member, contributing to the preservation of aquatic life and habitats.
A devout Christian, Bill found strength and solace in his faith. He was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church in Laingsburg, where he formed many cherished friendships and was known for his faith-filled spirit.
Bill's interests were as vast as his knowledge of the natural world. He was an avid traveler, fisherman, and hunter. He relished the time spent outdoors, whether it was on a quiet lake waiting for the fish to bite or in the woods in the quiet pursuit of game. His love for camping led to many cherished family memories, as he shared his love for adventure with his wife and children.
Christmas was a special time for Bill, a season he celebrated with great enthusiasm. His home was a hub of warmth and laughter during the holidays, and his funny and friendly nature ensured that everyone felt welcome.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his devoted wife, Ruth, his children, Todd W. (April) Gruhn and Jeffrey Scott Gruhn, and his beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Adriana, and David Gruhn, as well as his great-grandson, Cyrus. He will also be fondly remembered by his brother, Larry (Marsha) Gruhn, sister-in-law, Patty Gruhn, brothers-in-law, Bernard (Lillian) Andriekus and Paul (Martha) Andriekus. His spirit will be carried on through the stories and memories shared by his family and the many friends who were lucky enough to know him. Preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Terry and Grant Gruhn, and his sister-in-law, Linda Andriekus, Bill is now reunited with them in eternal peace.
Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans at dav.org.

My girls and I send our deepest condolences to the Gruhn Family and their friends. We had the great pleasure of enjoying his company for a couple of years, usually for a holiday dinner or to meet up for lunch. He and Ruth welcomed us into their lives with open arms and big hugs. His kindness was genuine. We will treasure those memories and hold them close to our hearts.
God bless him.
