William John “Bill” Hamel, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Quincy, Massachusetts, died peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia. He was 82.
Bill was born in Boston on September 10, 1942, and was the son of the late Stephen Charles and Margaret (Welch) Hamel. He was raised in North Quincy, attended local schools, and graduated from North Quincy High School.
Bill’s career was with Delta Airlines Cargo. He retired in 2007. Bill enjoyed his work and the relationships he built throughout the years.
In his spare time, Bill loved gardening, taking day trips “down the cape” with his wife Anna, apple picking at Honey Pot Hill, and spending time with his grandkids and friends. He was an avid sports fan but loved baseball and hockey the most. Bill cherished watching his grandson Jarod play lacrosse, cracking jokes with his granddaughter Samantha, and taking drives to Nantasket beach with his grand dog Ella, to watch the waves.
Bill was the beloved husband of the late Anna A. (Ferrara) Hamel, who died in 2009. He was the devoted father of Denise Wilson and her husband Russell of Florida, and Deborah Hamel of Georgia. Bill was the loving grandfather of Samantha Olsen and her partner Matt Drawdy and Jarod Olsen, all of Georgia. Bill was preceded in death by his brother, the late Stephen “Charlie” Hamel. He is also survived by extended family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, October 3, 2024, 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
His funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 10 AM in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy.
Services will conclude with interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
Memorial contributions may be sent in Bill's name to the charitable organization of one's choice.
