William "Bill" Humphreys, III age 64, died peacefully on August 7, 2025, in his hometown of Salisbury, MD. He is survived by his wife Sandy Humphreys and father William W. Humphreys, Jr., both of Salisbury, sister Courtney Humphreys and brother-in-law Elwood "Link" Wilkins of Ocean City, sister Michelle Humphreys and sister-in-law Monica Reinagel of Baltimore, and his dog Einstein. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Constance "Connie" Mears Humphreys of Salisbury.
Bill was born in Washington, DC on December 16, 1960. His early interests included football and music, and he attended Rockville High School and J. M. Bennett Senior High. Billretired in 2023 after a 30-year career working for Salisbury University Dining Services.
Bill loved the outdoors, music, singing, all of nature, and especially his wife and family. One of his greatest joys was spending time with Sandy and their extended family each year on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He was passionate about the Ravens and the Orioles, and watching games on TV with friends was a favorite way to socialize. He was an avid fisherman, a hiker, and a student of the natural world, with endless curiosity about economics and politics, the ecosystem, and our place in it. He loved driving around the Eastern Shore, especially when the trip included fresh oysters. He always completed his crossword puzzles in pen.
He was unfailingly and extraordinarily generous with his hospitality, his laughter, his care and concern, his curiosity, attention, and passions. But most of all, his generous love for his wife, family, and friends. Bill will always live in our hearts, in the sight of a soaring osprey, and in laughter and smiles, and he will be missed so dearly.
Visitation will be at 2pm and the funeral service at 3pm on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bill's honor at Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
