William Riley Koons, 86, of North Vernon, passed peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday, February 16, 2024.  He was born in Brooklyn, Indiana on May 8, 1937 to the late Homer Koons and Addie Ruth (Becker) Koons.

Bill, as most knew him, graduated from Martinsville High School in 1955.  He worked as a truck driver for over 50 years before retiring. During his career as an owner/operator with hundreds of thousands of miles on the road, he worked for Mooresville Block, Myers Trucking, Ohio Indiana Stone, Yellow, and FourStar.  He partially retired but continued to work part time for Securitas for an additional 17 years.

At the age of 21 years old, he married the love of his life, Karen Phillips, on June 14, 1958 in Monrovia.  They had two children and had enjoyed over 39 years of marriage when she passed on August 8, 1997.

Bill was a member of the Brooklyn Masonic Lodge.  A man of Christian faith, he was a member of the Marrowood Baptist Church and Mt. Gilead Church.  He enjoyed playing golf, was an avid Reds baseball fan, and an avid Colts football fan.

He leaves behind a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly including his son, James (wife, Roberta) Koons of Franklin; daughter, Candice “Candi” (husband, Tim) Burnside of Scipio; grandchildren, Kyle (wife, Amy) Koons, Blaine (Jessica) Koons, Jaclyn Koons, Deidra (husband, Joe) McLaughlin, Shaylee Burnside, and Abby Burnside; and great grandchildren, Jane Koons, Graham Koons, Patrick Koons, Benjamin Koons, Archer Koons, Malia, Eli, Patrick McLaughlin and Henry McLaughlin.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville.  Bill’s Life Celebration® Service will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the funeral home.  Following the service, Bill’s earthly remains will be cremated.  His cremated remains will then be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville at a later date.
