William Kress, age 86, passed away on June 15, 2025.
William J. Kress, Sr., known affectionately as Bill, (or Willy), to his friends and family, passed away on June 15, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born on June 12, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, and left this world in the peaceful surroundings of his home in
Justice, Illinois. Bill fought a brave battle against cancer, showing the strength and resilience that characterized his entire life.
Bill grew up in the vibrant heart of Chicago and carried the spirit of the city with him throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of St. Rita High School, Class of '57, and continued his education at Loyola University where his passion for learning and creativity flourished. Bill's life was one of dedication and love – a love that extended from his family to his work, his art, and the teams he supported with his whole heart.
Professionally, Bill was highly respected as the co-owner of DOH Memorials. His talents as an artist and designer touched many lives, as his work on memorials and artwork is admired around the world. This legacy of beauty and remembrance is a testament to his ability to capture the essence of life and the hearts of those he served.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bill's faith was personal and spiritual, guiding him through life's trials and triumphs. His belief in something greater than himself was reflected in the way he lived, bringing comfort and hope to those around him.
Bill's zest for life could be seen in his diverse interests. A true family man at heart, he was deeply passionate about the well-being of his loved ones. His wife, Bernadine, was his constant companion for the past 16 years, lovingly sharing each day's blessings together. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Kress, and is survived by their combined families, including five sons, four daughters, two stepsons, and one stepdaughter. Bill's legacy also includes twenty-four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Bill's love for nature was evident in his meticulously tended flower gardens, a quiet testament to his patience and nurturing spirit. His creative soul found expression in painting, where he created vivid canvases that spoke of his inner vision and passion. A lifelong Chicago sports fanatic, Bill dedicated countless hours cheering for the White Sox, Blackhawks, and Bears. His love for golf was more than a hobby; it was a way of connecting with family, friends, nature, and himself.
Those who knew Bill best would describe him as generous, always ready to lend a hand or support a friend in need. His passion was the fuel for his life's work, from the memorials he designed to the bonds he fostered with his beloved family.William J. As we remember Bill, we celebrate a life lived with enthusiasm, dedication, and a boundless passion for all facets of life.
