Chief Master Sergeant William Carlson Libby (Ret.), died on 1 July 2025.
Born February 9,1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii to the late Hazel Matilda Norris and William C. Libby, where he lived for a decade after which he moved to Washington, Annapolis, and finally Charleston, South Carolina as a Navy dependent and stepson of William Norris.
As in typical post war fashion, many loving Aunties and Uncles, and especially, Tutu Lena Matilda South (aka Marthalene Miles's Thompson, daughter of Charles and Annie Akunini Thompson of Mau) cared for and mentored Bill and his late brother Bruce during their early childhood and whose lessons carried on. "Billy Poi" lived in Malakai, Maui and Oahu during his early years and was part of the south and Thompson Ohana with many cousins and family members. Bill's loving mother Hazel Matilda Norris endured great stress yet raised a family of six with love and support.
Bill enlisted in the Air Force February 1958 at the age of 17 and retired after 27 ½ years active-duty force followed by 18 years Civil Service and retiring as a GS-13. Permanent assignments included in order, Turner AFB Georgia, Thule Greenland, Toul Rossies France, Ramstein Germany, Keno Oregon, U-Tapao Thailand, Wheeler Field Hawaii, FE Warren AFB Wyoming, Ramstein Germany, Tyndall AFB Florida, Ramstein Germany and returning to Tyndall AFB Florida. He loved the service and the many men and women he served with, not only helping put "iron on the ramp", but also mentoring young men and women to meet their full potential while in and preparing for being out of the service. Civilian nationals became comrades and bell weather friends.
One of Bill's fondest memories was that of being stationed in Germany along with his Sgt Major father and Spec 5 brother during the early 60's. He was very proud of his brother Bruce who went to college after his service and became a principal for a church school. He loved his work for the children and for the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, and son Marc William Libby.
Those left to cherish his memory include his dear wife, soul, and shipmate Ursula Libby, daughter Cathrin Ann Owens (Mark), stepdaughter and dearest friend Jeanette Howard, stepson Michael Howard (Kimberly), grandchildren Carli, Anya, Connor, and Abigail. Others include Cathy Reko, Carl Norris and Carleen McDonald from Charleston and Norris Ohana.
Bill loved animals, including faithful and loving dogs Dolly, Bella Maria, Dixie Lee, Schatzi and Button. Many people including assignment comrades and friends continued to share quality moments and memories into retirement in Panama City. Meetings at "The Place" were always special.
Interment will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Bill at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida. One of the most professional people I have ever met. God bless him in his family! Armand Grassi
