William S. Lowe Jr. of Granbury, TX passed away on February 1, 2025, at the age of 92, after a long journey with Alzheimer's. Bill was born on June 26, 1932, in Lometa, TX to William S. Lowe, Sr. and Lillie Biggs Lowe. He was delivered by his grandfather, Dr. W.M. Lowe, M.D. Bill grew up in Mullin, TX and after graduating from Mullin high school as valedictorian in 1949 he was the first student from Mullin to attend college. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1954 with a B.S. degree in Mathematics and Astronomy. He was a life-long avid Longhorn through and through. Hook'em! After graduation, he moved his family from Austin to Arlington, TX and began his career as an engineer and technical writer for LTV Corporation until his retirement in 1989. Bill had a lifelong passion and interest in Paleontology. He was instrumental in founding the Dallas Paleontological Society (DPS) in 1984 and served as its President, V.P, and newsletter editor. The DPS is a liaison between professional and amateur paleontologist and currently has over 300 members and growing. Two of his greatest accomplishments in the field were the reconstruction of a Mammoth which is on display at the Perot Museum in Dallas and the reconstruction of a dinosaur from Jones Ranch on display at the Fort Worth Museum of Natural History and Science. Bill was an avid baseball fan. His love for baseball began as a pitcher on the Mullin High School team and coached his two sons in little league teams which grew into a lifelong love of the sport. Although he followed the Texas Rangers faithfully, he loved all professional teams. Over his lifetime he built quite a collection of baseball memorabilia to include over 200 books. In 1980 Bill married Wanda and built a life traveling in their RV to various gem and mineral shows throughout the country. Together they built a large collection of amber with insects, and fossils that they exhibited and sold at shows throughout the country. Their travels took them to various places in the United States, as well as the Dominican Republic, and cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. In addition to travel, Bill loved fishing, horse racing and spending time on the river in their home in Pecan Plantation. He is preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Allen, sister Janet Massey, grandson Paul Baffi and Janie Lowe, the mother of his children. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Wanda Lowe. Two sons, Terry Lowe (Becky) and Brad Lowe, three stepchildren, Lisa Humphreys (Mark), Lynda Leach (Barry), Lynette Elkins (Danny), nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
