William Franklin McCaughey passed from this earthly life on November 2, 2024 two weeks short of his 88th birthday at his home in Mint Hill, North Carolina under the care of Hospice and his family. Bill was born on November 16, 1936 in Adrian, Michigan to Glen F. and Dorles (Jordan) McCaughey, the fifth of 9 children. Bill graduated from Onsted High School in Onsted, Michigan in May 1956. Bill’s career was that of a draftsman, first at Faraday, and then for 24 years at Tecumseh Products where he was the drafting supervisor. On December 12, 1959 he married his high school sweetheart, Julie Goodrich, at Cadmus Presbyterian Church, Cadmus, MI. They celebrated 64 wonderful years together. Bill & Julie had 4 children. Todd and his wife Sandra Frolich McCaughey of Ann Arbor, MI, Karen and her husband Tony Hackett of Matthews, NC. Kristin and her husband Philip Ward, also of Matthews and Daniel and his wife Bridgitt McCaughey of Grand Blanc, MI.
Surviving along with his children are his grandchildren Kayla Hackett, Drew and his wife Kassidy Hackett, Evan Hackett, Ryan McCaughey, USN, Erika and her husband Dustin Miller, Lauren McCaughey and her fiancé Brady Rastia, Sarah Ward, Maria Ward, Anna McCaughey and Gabriel McCaughey. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Wade Hackett, Georgia Hackett and Kinsley Rastia. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Kooistra of Valley Center, CA and a brother, Robert McCaughey of Ashland, AL. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Luanne Mattis, Ruth Latonis, Nancy Bourns, David McCaughey, Beth Richardson and Walter in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on November 16 at 11AM with visitation from 10AM to 11AM at Stephenson & Gaskin Funeral Service, 14617 West Lawyers Road, Matthews, NC 28104 with the Rev. John Moritsen officiating. There will be a visitation at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church in Brooklyn Michigan on Saturday November the 23rd from 10:00 am to 11:AM with the Funeral Services starting at 11:00AM. Burial will be at Maple Shade Cemetery, Onsted, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the North Carolina Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund are suggested and would be greatly appreciated.
