It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William H. McClure on October 9, 2024 at the age of 88.
Bill was born in Short Creek, WV on January 14, 1936 to Elizabeth "Libby" Ellison McClure and Harry "Hack" McClure.
Bill graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1953, where he played basketball and baseball. He later also took up tennis and golf.
He started his professional career with C & P Telephone Company and worked 40 years for the phone company before retiring in 1992 to enjoy over 30 years of retirement. Bill had a passion for woodworking and often spent his time crafting beautiful furniture, including kitchen cabinets made from trees grown on his own property.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Harry; and his first wife, Betsy Jones McClure.
Surviving Bill is his wife of 56 years, Peggy Trax McClure; his son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Susanne; daughter, Marla; his beautiful granddaughter, Maggie; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Friends and family will be received Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 3 - 7 PM and Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 12 PM until the time of service at 1 PM with Bernie Bozenske officiating at Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Ave., Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-277-2722).
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care and his dedicated caregivers for their compassion and support during this difficult time.
