William McGrath Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - St. Matthews from Dec. 19 to Dec. 20, 2025.
William "Tony" McGrath, Jr., 84, of Cox's Creek, passed peacefully in palliative care at Baptist East Hospital on December 16, 2025.
He was born September 21, 1941, to William A McGrath, Sr., and Mary Beulah Mattingly McGrath in Louisville; Tony was the first of their six children. His parents and his brothers Jerry, Bobby, and Jim and granddaughter Jami Leigh preceded him in death. His sisters Mary (Jerry) and Susan (Rick) survive.
Tony graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1960. He worked for a short time at the Louisville School for the Blind before working for the United States Postal Service for 33 years. After retiring from the USPS, he worked for Pepperidge Farm and delivered prescriptions for Hurst Discount Drugs in Bardstown, KY, for 13 years.
Tony married Treva Proctor McGrath in 1990. He was a loving husband and father to sons Mike (Liz), John (Kathleen), Rodney (Kit), Scott (Kelly), and Phillip (Amanda). Tony enjoyed all of his grandchildren: Drew (Nicole), Max, MC, Diane (Matt), Keith (Ashley), Jessi, Kyle, Dakota, Cheyton, Matt (Chasity), and Greta (Jordan), but he was especially close to his granddaughters Mallory and Brynn. He also had great grandchildren Elijah, Seth (Katie), Henry, Wyatt, Jazzmen, Harlan, Noah, Wyatt, Ezra, and several nieces and nephews.
He was an avid stamp collector for 73 years, enjoyed gardening and nature, and loved spending time with his family.
His funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 531 E. Liberty, at 11 AM. Visitation will be Monday, December 22nd from 3 PM to 7 PM at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Rd., St. Matthews.
Expressions of sympathy can be made in Tony's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
