William "Bill" Patrick McGuire, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 15, 2026, in
Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on April 6, 1938, in
Ridgway, Illinois, Bill's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to family, community, and his faith.
Bill devoted 29 years of his professional life to Indiana Bell, where he worked, before retiring in 1991. His journey didn't end there; he continued to serve the industry through his work with Hancock Rural Telephone Company for 17 years, leaving a lasting impact in every role he embraced.
An active member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Bill shared his love for service as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts, and countless numbers of mission trips. Throughout his life, he was also an avid golfer, delighting in the game and even achieving the joyous feat of a hole-in-one.
Education was important to Bill, as he began his journey at St. Meinrad Seminary and later earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Evansville. His commitment to learning and service did not go unnoticed; he was honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award from St. Meinrad, the 2005 Indiana Broadband and Technology Distinguished Service Award, and the Bronze Pelican from Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bill's heart belonged to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Hungate McGuire, who stood proudly by him in their 61 – plus years of marriage. Their children, Karen (Al) Rodriguez, Kevin (Amber) McGuire, and Carrie (Jason) Martin, carry forward the values he instilled in them. Bill cherished his grandchildren: Andrea (Tyler), Austin, Zack, Addison, Joe, Ryan, and George. He found immeasurable joy in their laughter and achievements. Bill was also blessed with a brother, Richard McGuire, and a sister, Sr. Patricia McGuire O.S.B., who provided the nurturing bonds of family that he treasured.
In the final years of his life, Bill was supported by wonderful caregivers, Becky Zielinski and ComForCare, to whom his family expresses their deepest gratitude.
Bill leaves behind a legacy rich in love, faith, and service. His contributions to the community and family will be celebrated at a Mass held at St. Barnabas Catholic Church on January 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM, preceded by a visitation on January 18, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at O'Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Indianapolis.
