William Harry McMicken, MD., 90, of North Wales, PA died on May 11, 2023. He was the husband of Anita L. (Montone) McMicken of 49 years. Bill was born in Salem, West Virginia on December 5, 1932 to the late William Webster and Nettie (Walkley) McMicken. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1958, and he practiced internal medicine in the Philadelphia suburbs for more than 50 years, primarily in association with Holy Redeemer Hospital. Bill was a generous and dedicated physician, who referred to his practice style as "Old Time Medicine."
Bill served as a Medical Officer in the US Navy from 1958-1965. During his time in the Navy, he worked on nuclear submarines and was a deep sea diver. Bill was very proud to have been trained by Admiral Rickover, the "Father of the Nuclear Navy." He loved reading, computers, cooking and baking, gardening, traveling and playing the piano. Bill also had a passion for researching genealogy, making significant contributions to building his family tree on Ancestry.com.
Along with his wife Anita, he is survived by his children Carolyn McMicken (Michael Shoemaker), Brian McMicken (Rachel Timmerman), his grandchildren Zane, Owen and Zoe Shoemaker, his siblings Helen Brissey, George McMicken, Cheryl Boor. He was predeceased by his siblings Mary Holbert, Betty Ridgely, Thomas McMicken, Marion McMicken.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 7:00PM at the Emil J. Ciavarelli Funeral Homes and Crematory, 951 E. Butler Pike, Ambler, PA 19002. A visitation will be held from 5:30-7:00 PM. Interment will be Private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill's name can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital online at www.stjude.org/donate/, or by mail to ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
