Age 86 of Morris, Illinois, died Monday, October 27, 2025 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, Illinois.
Born February 13, 1939 in Salem, North Dakota, William Allen was a son of Merle and Ruth (McGregor) Peckenpaugh. He was raised and educated in Morris and graduated from Morris Community High School with the Class of 1957. Bill then served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961 when he was discharged honorably. On September 28, 1963 he married Glynnda Meier in Morris.
Bill began his professional career at Federal Paper and Board papermill in Morris before training himself to become a draftsman. He would spend the next 35 years working for Homes by Holmes, helping to craft numerous homes and buildings throughout the community. In 1970, Bill and his wife were baptized by the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Morris, where he was an active member and volunteered much of his time, as well as the Assembly Hall in Romeoville, Illinois. He was an avid fan of aircrafts, had his private pilot license and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and greatly enjoyed going to the Oshkosh Air Show.
Anyone who knew Bill that was a friendly guy who knew many people about town. His favorite pastimes were sitting down to a good meal and telling stories, preferably at the same time. Bill took great pleasure in sharing his life's experiences and being gathered about with people. He was a story teller to the very end, and his family will be forever grateful for the love and time he devoted to them over the past 86 years.
Survivors include his wife, Glynnda Peckenpaugh, and one daughter Deborah Peckenpaugh, both of Morris; two brothers: Richard D. (Jan) Peckenpaugh of Katy, Texas and Merle D. (Myra) Peckenpaugh, Jr. of Delray, West Virginia; one sister-in-law, Linda Peckenpaugh of Lewiston, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norman Peckenpaugh, and one sister, LaVonne "Bonnie" Vigna.
Per Bill's wishes, cremation rites are being accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial talk at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 3020 Illinois Route 47, in Morris on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
