William Frank Rhodes

William Frank "Bill" Rhodes finished an earthly sojourn of 93 years and met his Savior on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Bill was born in Erie on September 3, 1928, to Charles and Minnie Rhodes, each of whom preceded him in death.

Bill was a 1946 graduate of Academy High School. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. There he met Roberta Louise White, whom he married in 1951. During their 70 years together, they had three children, Susan Irene Hess, who preceded him in death, Kenneth William Rhodes, and Joni Charlene Lawley (Michael). Bill was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Following graduation from Edinboro University, Bill taught social studies courses at Harbor Creek High School from 1955 to 1986. He continued to teach as a volunteer for another 10 years at Bethel Christian School. Bill was a founding member and regular attendee at Garden Heights Baptist Church.

Bill loved anything mechanical. He built and raced competitively several three quarter midget cars, became an amateur self-taught gunsmith, and enjoyed building model airplanes. Bill was also a reader of history and the author of three published historical novels, and many short stories. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the respect of colleagues, neighbors, friends, and of course, family.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Saturday, February 19th, from 11 am until the time of the Funeral Service there at 1 pm conducted by Rev. Scott Shuffield. Interment will follow at East Springfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Christian School, 1781 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16508.
