Dr. William E. Roberson Sr.,
Mooresville, IN went to be with the Lord on October 1, 2024. He was known by many as Dr. R. and was born July 9, 1946 to Ralph E. Roberson Jr. and Thelma (Patrick). His parents and sister, Toni Griesier, preceded him in death. His sister Sandy Perry survives. Dr. R. married his high school sweetheart Linda Kay Morley on August 17, 1968. He always said this was the luckiest day of his life. They have three children: William "Will" Jr. (Joslyn Merriman), Christian "Chris" Spengler (Brian) and Angela "Angie" Borders (Tony); grandchildren: Kaden, Kasley, Kinley and Kohley Roberson and Lily and Mitchell Spengler.
Dr. R.'s life was defined by family, Christian faith and community service. He graduated from Mooresville High School, Indiana State University and Indiana University and Keystone School of Real Estate. He was an elementary teacher in Plainfield, IN for four years (1968-72), principal, assistant superintendent. and superintendent in
Mooresville, IN for thirty years (1972-2002). Dr. R. retired from Mooresville Schools in 2002 and formed Roberson Consulting Services LLC. He was interim superintendent of Yorktown Community Schools, South Henry School Corporation, Monroe-Gregg School District and M.S.D. of Martinsville. As one of the Indiana's top school finance experts he was consultant and mentor for over thirty school districts. He was a professor at Indiana University and professor/administrator at Indiana Wesleyan University. Dr. R. was a state and national speaker on school finance, Indoor Air Quality, putting religion back in public schools and servant leadership. He created Karing for Kindergarteners Program which he presented at National Education Conferences as well as being published in education magazines. He co-authored five school finance/facilities/leadership books. He was writing a book on moral decisions in a school budget at time of death.
Dr. R.'s service to community was legendary and included: Founder and Emeritus Trustee of Mooresville Community Foundation; Mooresville Chamber of Commerce and Parks and Recreation Board of Directors; President of Friends of the Library; Mooresville School Board member and president; member and president of Mooresville Board of Zoning Appeals; vice president and treasurer of Mooresville Jr. Football and Basketball Leagues; member and vice president of Mooresville Plan Commission. Dr. R. received recognition for his service to school and community: Mooresville High School Wall of Success, Alumni of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame; Mooresvillian of the Year; Nov. 20, 2001 designated by Town of Mooresville as Dr. Roberson Day; Dr. Roberson is one of a few Hoosiers to be awarded Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash, Distinguished Hoosier and Honorable Kentucky Colonel; recognition from Mooresville Taxpayers Association; Monrovia School District Educator of the Year, Monrovia High School's Service and Ambassador of the Arts Awards; Indy Racing League Ministry; Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, Pi Gamma Mu National Social Science Honor Society and Pi Lambda Theta National and International Honor Society; Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Community Service Award; Indiana Governor appointment to Indiana State Property Tax Control Board.
Dr. R. was a member of Mt. Gilead Church in
Mooresville, IN. A celebration of his life's commitment to family, Christ and community service will be held at his visitation from 11am - 5pm, Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Mooresville High School North Gym (enter door 44) where he played many games. Pastor Jack Elliott will officiate Dr. R's celebration of life memorial service following the visitation at 5pm in the North Gym. Dr. R's earthly remains will be buried at White Lick Cemetery during a private graveside service at a later date.
