William R. Shauver, age 83, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022 in LaJolla, California. He was born Sept. 23, 1938 in Lorain, Ohio to the late Russell and Anna Shauver (nee Dabrowski). Upon moving to Florida, he became a member of All Saints Byzantine Catholic Church, Cape Coral, Florida, which remained close to his heart. He felt Byzantine ceremonies were not a "duty" to be performed but an "Experience" to be lived.
He was multilingual (English, Polish and Spanish) and he graduated from Lorain High School, followed by Bowling Green State University and Kent State University. He did course work at Nova Southwestern University; Labor Relations at the University of Illinois; Vocational Training at The Ohio State University; and Minority Youth Seminars at Kent State University. He was a Certificate holder Level One in the Afrikan Teacher Corp.
He taught for 36 years in the Cleveland Public Schools as a teacher and Guidance Counselor. During several summers, he taught English in Krakow, Poland through Unesco. He was an Auxiliary Policeman and Councilman in Avon, Ohio. He was also co-owner of Lewis Construction and Landscaping. He worked as a security guard in Florida, attaining the rank of Captain, retiring in 2017.
He was a published writer of short stories and was working on a Novella. He recently moved to California with good friend Art Bunce.
He is survived by his son: Michael Shauver; Brother: Robert Shauver of Mayfield Hts.; Cousins: Renee Neal, Gloria Babitt and many others. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years: Charlyne (nee Sime); Son: William Jr. "Billy"; and good friends: Matthew Germundsen, Paul Lewis, and Tigue Puli.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 11 a.m. until time of Parlor service at 12 noon at the Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Memorial contributions may be made to: Love A Stray Animal Rescue (DOG DIVISION), P.O. Box 125, Avon Lake, OH 44012
