William Stanley “Billy” Carruthers, age 76, resident of Oakland, Tennessee, departed this life Tuesday morning, April 22, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee.
Billy was born January 31, 1949 and raised in Collierville, Tennessee, the son of the late Stanley Alden Carruthers and Doris Mae Fletcher Carruthers. He attended Collierville High School and served his country in the United States Army. He was a self-employed painter for over 20 years and enjoyed family gatherings, especially when food was served, hunting, fishing and watching old western movies. Billy loved to make people laugh and will be remembered for being a practical jokester.
Mr. Carruthers is survived by his daughter, Ashley Carruthers Colclasure (Peter) of Oakland, TN; his brother, Stanley “Hunter” Carruthers (Sally) of Naples, FL; three grandchildren, Autumn Morrison of Memphis, TN, Katelynn Leake of Oakland, TN and Coy Colclasure of Oakland, TN; and his great-grandson, Lincoln Paul Pendergrass of Memphis, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Crafton and two brothers, Bobby Carruthers and Joe Carruthers.
A visitation for Mr. Carruthers will be from 10 to 11 A.M. Thursday, May 1, 2025 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Collierville. Funeral Services will be at 11 A.M. Thursday, May 1, 2025 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with Father Jeff Marx officiating. Interment will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Brett McMillen, Peter Colclasure, Hunter Pendergrass, Wallace Wood and Wesley Carruthers. Honorary pallbearers will include Charles Gatlin.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 106 Walnut Street, Collierville, TN 38017.
