In loving memory and celebration of a truly wonderful man, the family of William (Bill) Summers shares the event of his passing on September 18, 2025. Bill was born in San Francisco, CA, on September 17, 1943, to William Cooper and Marie Loustau Summers. Growing up, Bill was an all-around athlete, but football was his passion. He played football in high school and college, earning All-American honors and collecting a lifetime of football stories to share with his family. Bill graduated with his undergraduate degree from Santa Clara University, where he met and fell in love with his wife, Barbara (Bobbi) Yvonne Ley. Bill and Bobbi were married on June 17, 1965, and one year later, welcomed their oldest daughter, Kirsten Marie Javernick (Todd), into their lives, followed fourteen months later by their oldest son, William (Bill) Carlton Summers (Stephanie). Five years later, Bill and Bobbi grew their family with another son, Eugene (Gene) Brian Summers (Kimberly), and after another five years, a daughter, Tabar Marie Smith (Chris).

Bill earned his Education Specialist professional degree from San Jose State, which launched him into his successful 50-year career as a school psychologist. Bill worked in several school districts in both California and Colorado, including 30 years as the school psychologist in Florence, Cotopaxi, and Westcliffe. During this time, he was honored with the 1991 Colorado School Psychologist of the Year award.

Bill was known for his sense of humor, grilled lamb and scallops, and generous love. Bill mentored his sons, sons-in-law, and grandsons in the art of grilling. Bill loved to hunt, fish, and camp with his sons and sons-in-law, grandsons, brothers-in-law, and nephews and nieces. He also enjoyed playing cards and skiing with his family. Bill and Bobbi celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary on June 17, 2025. Bill left a legacy of four children; ten grandchildren, Shane Javernick (Lauren), Maxwell Javernick (Quianna), and Gunner Javernick (Becky); Mariah Summers, Haley Rierson (Ross), and Kodee Summers (John); Easton Summers and Walker Summers; Brody Smith and Sam Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Brecken, Iver, and Asher Javernick. Bill is survived by his sister, April Ross; sisters-in-law, Kaley Rose and Patty Selby; brothers-in-law, Gene, Don, Jim, Bill, Mike, and Tom Ley, and their families. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Katherine Binger.

We will miss Bill/Dad/Grandpa with all our hearts, but we are forever grateful to have had the time and love we shared with him. Private services will be held at a later time by his family. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity in Bill's honor.
