William Eugene Black, Sr., was born on October 20, 1940, to Annis Maxine Henson and Alonzo Black, Jr., at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas. He passed away at his home in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, July 27th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. From birth, he became known as Tony. His mother and siblings alike referred to him as Tony, even though it was not his birth name. He served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963. In 1958, he met Bernice Louise Moore. They were married on September 30, 1960. They would remain married for over 64 years. He was a meat cutter by trade but had a variety of interests and hobbies, including photography, gardening, canning, cooking, fishing, barbequing, and golfing. He especially enjoyed listening to and recording jazz as well as other genres of music. His brother, Van Henson, introduced him to Alvin Baker, with whom he studied the Bible. He made a dedication and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on January 12, 1980. Following his baptism, his daughters, wife, his two youngest sons, and two grandsons also dedicated themselves to Jehovah and were baptized. There is great potential for many other family members to follow the same course. Sharing his faith and helping others learn about what Jehovah will do by means of his son, Jesus Christ, has been a priority in his life. He even did so while hospitalized. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Black, Jr., and Annis (Henson) Miller, his siblings, Richard, May Katherine, Alva Christine, and son, Vincent René. He is survived by his wife Berna Black, children William Black Jr., Toni Louise Thomas (Tim), Bernice Black, Sadrah Black, Karen Black, Jason Black (Shauntay), Christopher Black, grandchildren, Terrence Black (Paula), Nathanael Jack, Naomi Jack, Tonisha Thomas (Jaydon), Justice Black, Keeson Black, Vincent Black, a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, siblings; Van Henson, Sr. (Bobbie), Jerry Raymond Miller, Ronald Ray Black, Sr. (Beverly), Jeannye Polk, Lois Faye Randel (Elton, Sr.), and Teresa Maxwell. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM THE FAMILY We are profoundly grateful for each, and every expression of love and concern extended to us during this time. We have been comforted by your visits, cards, food, texts, calls, flowers, prayers and thoughtful deeds. It is our heartfelt prayer that all of God's blessings be showered upon you in abundance. "They will build houses and have occupancy, and they will plant vineyards and eat their fruitage." - Isaiah 65:21
