William Robert "Bob" Vinnedge
December 3, 1944 - July 25, 2025
William Robert "Bob" Vinnedge, 80, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025. Born December 3, 1944, in Hamilton, Ohio, Bob dedicated his life to serving his community with humble leadership, unwavering fairness, and a sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.
Bob is survived by his sister, Sally Vinnedge Smith of Canadensis, Pennsylvania, as well as his dearest long-time friends and the many friends he made during his years of service in Schaumburg Township. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William F. and Dorothy Vinnedge of Hamilton, Ohio.
Bob's commitment to community service spanned decades and touched countless lives throughout Schaumburg Township and beyond. His leadership was marked by genuine care for others and an ability to bring people together for the common good.
Bob was first elected to Township office in the early 1990s and served as Clerk and Trustee for Schaumburg Township, where his dedication to transparent and efficient governance earned him the respect of residents and colleagues alike. He also served as a representative for multiple organizations, including the Township Officials of Cook County Clerks Division, demonstrating his ability to bridge different groups and interests.
Perhaps nowhere was Bob's passion for preserving history and building community more evident than in his role as President of the Schaumburg Township Historical Society, a position he held from 2002 to 2025. Under his leadership, the Historical Society flourished, becoming a cornerstone of community identity and education.
Bob's vision for community betterment led him to co-found the Schaumburg Township Foundation in 2023, ensuring that those in need and facing challenges would find support and assistance.
As Director Emeritus of the Schaumburg Township Republican Organization, Bob's contributions were numerous, and he took special pride in his work for the Lincoln Day Dinner.
Bob built his professional reputation during his long tenure at Underwriters Laboratory, where he worked for almost 30 years, followed by a life of public service and philanthropy. Growing up, Bob attended Taft High School in Hamilton, Ohio and graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Applied Science. He later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois.
Bob was a proud member of the Masons as a Medinah Shriner at Evans Lodge No. 524 A.F. & A.M., an organization that reflected his commitment to brotherhood and charitable work.
Those who knew Bob remember his commitment to public service, his appreciation for his colleagues, and his love for his friends. His humble demeanor, combined with his natural leadership abilities and genuine concern for others, made him a beloved figure in every organization he joined.
Memorial Service
A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Road,
Schaumburg, Illinois, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. The service is open to the public, reflecting Bob's welcoming spirit and the many lives he touched.
