William Donald "Bill" Wayt, Jr. September 18, 1960 – July 28, 2025 William Donald Wayt, Jr., known affectionately as Bill or Billy to those closest to him, passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2025, surrounded by love after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He fought with stubborn optimism, believing always that even hardships leave room for hope. Born in 1960, Bill lived life on his own terms, full throttle and without apology. From serving in the United States Navy to working on a stock car pit crew, his adventures were as varied as they were unforgettable. In his professional life, Bill was a skilled contractor specializing in general construction and historical restorations. His work stood not only as a testament to his craftsmanship but also to his pride in doing things the right way; sometimes slowly, sometimes after a detour, but always with care. Bill didn't measure life in money or possession, but in people and memories. He could walk away from material things with ease, but never from a friend or family member in need. Scheduling time with him could be an adventure; he might forget the date, he might forget the time, but he never forgot those who mattered. And when it truly counted, you could count on him. Of all the roles Bill played in life, his favorite was "Pap". At the center of his universe were his six grandchildren: Michael Gray, Emely Blake, Erik Blake, Siriniti Wayt, Aurora Hartley, and Landon Scott. Whether he was sneaking them treats or passing along "Pap wisdom" on finding joy, bending the rules, and stirring up mischief; he loved to soak up their joy and laughter. Bending rules was acceptable when making memories. With Pap, life was always a little more exciting, a little more daring, and a lot more filled with love. He is survived by his parents, William and Mary Wayt; daughters Dr. Jessica Blake (J.D.), April Wayt, and Melynda Wayt; brothers Scott Wayt, Dr. Michael Wayt, and Eric Wayt; sisters Sandra Talkington and Sharon Schmitt; special son-in-law Jeffrey "Allen" Blake, Jr.; mother of his children Debra Pinkerton; and lifelong friends, Timmy Kercher and Bob Johnson. Per his wishes, Bill will be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 3rd, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Moundsville American Legion. Friends and family who shared a laugh or a story with Bill are welcome to come and raise a glass in his honor. Bill's legacy isn't found in possessions or accolades-it's in every good laugh, hard-earned lesson, and moment of showing up. As he always said with a grin, "I've had a hell of a ride.". We'll miss his fierce independence, his ornery grin, and the way he made us feel-like we were the most important people in the world. Here's to Bill: the man who drove fast, loved deeply, and occasionally showed up on time.
