Mr. Willis “Dwight” Russell, age 86, entered into rest on Sunday evening, June 8, 2025. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend William Griggs and Pastor Hank Griffin with burial to follow in the Douglas Mill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dwight was born on August 11, 1938 in Albermarle, NC to the late Willis and Nellie Russell. He was married to his best friend and soulmate, Carolyn, and the two of them built a life together for over 47 years. He was an Army National Guard veteran, having served for 10 years. Dwight was a member of Douglas Mill Baptist Church. For many years he drove a truck to provide for his family, for whom he cared deeply. Mr. Russell will be greatly missed, and will be remembered by his children as the strongest man they have ever known and by his grandchildren as the greatest PaPa. An outdoorsman by nature, Mr. Russell enjoyed time fishing, hunting and tinkering with anything that he thought he may be able to fix.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sophia Brigman; sister-in-law, Margie Russell; and brother-in-law, Thomas Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Faulkenberry Russell; children, Kenneth (Sabrina) Russell, David (Melissa) Russell, Rusty (Jodean) Wallace, Sandra (Jose) Soto; grandchildren, Brianna Russell (Alex) Cogley, Zachary Russell, Brayden Russell, Jaley Russell, Tyler Russell, Kayla Wallace, Corey Scalf; brother, Keith Russell; sister, Jewel Davis; brother-in-law, Junior (Angie) Faulkenberry; sisters-in-law, Louise (David) Brigman, Margaret Blackwell, Catherine (Bill) Thompson, Grace Sellers; in addition to numerous beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Crescent Hospice for their care of Mr. Russell.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Crescent Hospice, (1039 Cheraw Street, Bennettsville, SC 29512).
