Wilma B. Pendorf Storm, 101, of Utica, our amazing Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed from this world to the great beyond on September 14, 2012. Wilma had been cared for in the comfort of her home and passed away after just one day in The Pines of Utica. She was born September 9, 1911 in Lanesboro, PA, daughter of Jacob and Minna Pendorf and was educated in Lanesboro Primary School, graduated from Susquehanna High School where she received many Citizenship Awards of which she was very proud. Wilma was a 1933 graduate of Charles S. Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Johnson City, NY, achieving the highest academic and clinical nursing awards. She was active in her profession of Nursing until her early 50's. She loved and respected the profession, her patients, their families and professional colleagues including physicians and nurses. She was a wonderful pediatric nurse and the years spent in the office of Philip Gold, MD were among the most rewarding of her nursing career. She had a wonderful rapport with children, with a fantastic sense of humor that almost always "carried the day". Mother often let others know emphatically that she was a "retired, tired, R. N. She was active in the community serving as a volunteer with the American Heart Association in its early Blood Pressure and Heart Screenings. She was of the Methodist faith and was active in the former Central United Methodist Church for many years. Since the late 1960's she attended the former Christ Community Church in Utica and made many close friends. An amazing Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother summer was a favorite time for our Mother. She loved her plants and flowers and when she could no longer tend to them herself, she became a great "sidewalk superintendent". She was an avid reader all her life until blindness prevented her from doing so. She then derived great pleasure from listening to her books on tape and having the daily newspaper read to her. Wilma is survived by her son G. Wescott Storm, Jr. and his wife Helen Arlin Storm of Marcy, her daughter Priscilla L. Storm of Utica, with whom Wilma resided and who cared for her; her beloved grandchildren Mark L. Storm of Montour Falls, NY and his fiancée Karen Ruddy,, Geoffrey M. Storm of New York Mills, Karen M. McNutt and husband Todd McNutt of Kingston, NY; her great-grandchildren Joshua O. McNutt and Jacob M. McNutt; her nieces Gwen Perry of Queensbury, NY, Ronita Hulburt of Sidney, NY, her nephew George Burnett Pendorf of Sidney, NY. She was predeceased by her former husband George Wescott Storm; her brothers Fred and Harold Pendorf; her sisters Leona Pendorf Stiles and Alma Pendorf Payne. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Kunkel Ambulance Service for the professional and compassionate care they provided to our Mother over the years. We offer a special thanks you to her physicians Dr. Steven LaGrant and his staff, especially Patti, for their many years of outstanding concern and kindness and care. Also to Dr. Charles Hobaica DPM and staff, especially Beth, and to the friends and neighbors who have been so faithful, helpful, attentive and caring through the years especially Erma B., Marsha R., Bev B. Grace M. and Joe K. It would do us all well to remember the fact that we all have a limited amount of time and that it's a privilege to grow old. And that's something a lot of people have forgotten in this very fast paced world where youth is overly celebrated. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 6 PM at the Dimbebly, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main St. Whitesboro. Calling hours will be from 4-6 PM prior to the service. Interment will be in Lanesboro, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association
