Ecclesiastes tells us that there is a time to be born and a time to die, so on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the Lord called Woodrow Kanan Adair to his heavenly home.
Woodrow was born in Avondale, West Virginia, on January 15, 1945, and was the son of the late James F. Adair, Sr., and Eula Gay Rasnick. After finishing high school, he worked in the coal mines for many years at several locations and was finally promoted to shift boss and then superintendent at Consol. Woodrow was a proud member of the UMWA for many years. He retired from Consol and attended the Mining Academy to become a federal mine inspector. He worked for many years as a federal mine inspector and was highly respected by the coal miners he helped to keep safe. He loved his family fiercely; they meant the world to him. He was a wonderful man of God and deeply loved the lord. In his spare time, he loved fishing, hunting, spending time with his dogs, and walking around Berwind Lake. He had previously attended the Emanuel Baptist Church, served as a deacon for many years, and attended the Advent Christian Church until his health failed. He lived most of his life in the surrounding areas and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
His heavenly reunion included his parents, sister Phyllis Knox, and brother Frank Adair, Jr.
Those who remain to carry on his loving spirit are his wife of almost 60 years, Deloris G. Charles Adair.
His daughter, Kris Lester, and her husband, Hilton of Cartersville, VA
His son, Darren Adair, and his wife, Renee of Cucumber, WV
Sisters, Nancy Wingo and Wilma Ward, both of Tazewell, VA
Brother, Robert Adair and his wife, Sandy, of Tazewell, VA
Grandchildren, David Adair of Tazewell, VA, Katie Adair Huntley and her husband, Floyd of Bristol, VA, Nick Lester of Christiansburg, VA
Great-grandchildren, Carter Adair, of Madison Heights, VA and Samuel Huntley of Bristol, VA
The funeral service for Woodrow Adair will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell, Virginia, with the Rev. Dan Cyphers officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia. The pallbearers will be Darren Adair, David Adair, Nick Lester, Hilton Lester, George Hampton, and Floyd Huntley. The UMWA Chaplain Corps will perform a memorial light service in honor of his dedication to coal mining.
The family will have a visitation on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell, Virginia.
