Cookie was born on December 8, 1952 to O.C. and Jewel Washington in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. At an early age she united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Cookie graduated from Wynnewood High School in 1971. That same year, on July 8, 1971, she married Arthur Joe Smith Sr. From this union, four children were born (Arthur Joe Smith Jr., Deidra Smith, Dacona Smith, and Miesha Smith). With God's help, constant prayer, and faith, the couple shared a 54 year marriage. Cookie later united with Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she raised her children to trust in God and always pray. She enjoyed singing in the choir, working with the youth, and serving as the church financial clerk. She took all of these positions very seriously and never hesitated to give advice. Cookie took pride in building positive relationships with the young people in the community. Her children's friends were treated like her own kids. Cookie would be the first to tell anyone that her greatest blessing was her family. She deeply cherished her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Some of her most enjoyable moments were family gatherings for holidays and birthdays. She made everyone feel special on their birthday and the holidays were always filled with love and laughter. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, writing in her journal, shopping, and spending time with her family. Cookie leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Arthur Joe Smith Sr., her daughters Deidra (Dede) and husband Chris Smith, Miesha (Meme) and husband Thomas Smith III, her sons Arthur Smith Jr. (J.J.) and wife Jennifer Smith, Dacona Smith and wife Demenda (Kay) Smith. She also has eleven grandchildren: Devion Smith, Autumn Chandler (Martez Chandler), Javon Smith, Wynter Smith, Drezick Smith, Arthur Smith III (Tre) (Stacie Smith), Jayden Sawyer (Chase Sawyer), Deja Smith, Thomas Smith IV, Josiah Smith, and Kaitlyn Smith. She also leaves three siblings that she was raised with to cherish her memory. Her sister, Sharon Thomas and husband Scott, her brothers, Frank Earl Washington and wife Beverly, and Ricky Washington and wife Jan. Cookie was preceded in death by her parents O.C. and Jewel Washington, three sisters that she grew up with; Donna Gray, Mary McNeil, and Debbie Washington, two brothers that she grew up with; Robert Washington and Lawrence Washington and one grandson, Devion Smith. Cookie will be forever remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and child of God. She impacted many people by living a life that served as an example for others. We will be forever grateful for the moments that we were able to share with her. We have comfort in knowing that she may be absent from the body but she is present with the Lord. The family will be recieving friends on Thursday, August 7, from 5-7 P.M. at the DeArman Funeral Home Chapel in Wynnewood. Services will follow on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11 A.M. at Mt. Carmel Baptist in Wynnewood, interment following at Oaklawn Cemetery.

"Cookie" and I had a lovely conversation for 30+ minutes on July19, 2025. We shared memories of her family O. C. and Jewell Washington, my family Mabel Johnson, Reed Methodist Church, and the assistance, caring, kindness that families in Wynnewood shared for our survival. We were blessed to have the family visit in "their" other home in San Francisco. It´s so sad to know that our caring and vibrant family member and friend has transcended, but the SWEET memories of "Cookie" will last forever in my heart and soul. My deepest sympathy to her FAMILY and Friends on our Angel "Cookie" who has become our everlasting Angel watching over us with our Heavenly Father who is in Heaven with his will being done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
