Zhanliang Feng was born in Zhejiang Province, China on October 28, 1941 to Father Zexian Feng and Mother Lanchun Chen. He was the youngest of three boys but lived the longest. Zhanliang married Guojun Huang on December 15, 1970. They were blessed with two daughters, Kelly and Tina.
Zhanliang grew up in Yiwu City in Zhejiang Province. He graduated from Nanjing University with an Astronomy Major in 1965. He became a researcher at Nanjing Purple Mountain Astronomy Observatory. He spent much of his years working and living in Nanjing with his family. Cope with his long-term COPD was a priority for him. In 2011 and 2014 he was grateful to move to Austin, capital of the U.S. state of Texas to stay with his daughter Tina. The American Medical Service gave him another 15 years to see his daughters and grandchildren grow. He loved spending time with his plants and working hard in the back yard garden in the last few years.
On May 16, 2025, Zhanliang passed away peacefully at home in Austin, Texas from lung function decline at the age of 85.
Zhanliang Feng is a pleasant gentleman, a hardworking intellectual and a great husband, father and grandfather. His beloved wife Guojun, daughters Kelly and Tina, Son in law Jack and Truman, and three lovely granddaughters Audrey, Leah and Lillian miss him so so much already.
