Zofia Szymanowski

Zofia (Wlodkowski) Szymanowski, 91, of Newington, died in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 27, 2017. She was a hard-working woman who was known to always stay busy. Although she retired from her full time job at Black & Decker, she continued to work as a chef's assistant until she was 78 years old. Zofia kept a clean house and was meticulous about making sure everything was neat and in order. She loved planting vegetables and flowers; her gardens were forever in bloom. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she leaves behind her husband of 69 years, John P. Szymanowski; her children, Henry Szyman and his partner Grazyna Kuczek, Barbara Kocur and her husband John, Halina Brojek and Robert Szymanowski; her adored grandchildren: John K., Latisha, Dorothy, Nichole, Annette, Jason, John S. and AnnMarie; as well as seven cherished great-grandchildren. Zofia is also survived by her sister, Krystyna Meczkowski and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and four siblings. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, May 31, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 1 at 9:30 a.m. DIRECTLY at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. She will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
