Zona Shoopman, age 70, a resident of rural Dunkirk, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025 at St. Vincent Ascension Hospital in Anderson.
Zona was born August 17, 1954, in Portland, Indiana, the daughter of John McClain and Betty Rigby. She was raised by her father John and step-mother Sharon McClain. She graduated from Jay County High School and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Dunkirk. She worked for as a catering manager for a hotel in Muncie and also worked for Family and Community Service in Portland. Zona married Rick Shoopman on June 28, 2010.

Her husband: Rick Shoopman – rural Dunkirk, Indiana
Son: Jeff Westlake – Portland, Indiana
Siblings: John McClain (wife Connie) – Virginia Beach, Virginia
Max McClain (wife Vickie) – Pennville, Indiana
Cheryl Newbauer (husband Rick) – Wichita, Kansas
Charlie McClain (wife Rhonda) – Bryant, Indiana
2 grandchildren: Brady Harrison and Damon Norton
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Toni Booher and a sister, Theresa Squier.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastor Nan Weesner will officiate and burial will follow at a later date at IOOF Twin Hill Cemetery in Pennville.
Memorials may be directed to the family of Zona Shoopman in care of Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home.
