Jean Bodet Obituary

Jean P. Bodet (Jay), age 91, devoted father of Suzanne Bodet Kropog (Jim), Jean (Jay) Bodet, Jr. (Lynn), René P. Bodet (Amy), and Andrée Bodet Caillet (Frank), passed away peacefully on January 1, 2019. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Kelly (Paul), Ryan (Jennifer), Tres, Katy, Gabrielle, Amelia, Joshua, Celeste, Camille, and Blake. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Baehr Bodet, his parents Calixtus Adrien Bodet and Cecelia Spellman Bodet, his in-laws Frank and Hazel Baehr, and his brothers C. Adrien Bodet, Jr. and Robert Bodet. Jay attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans until he was drafted and served as a medic during WWII in the 17th Infantry Regiment of the 7th Division of the U.S. Army. After returning from service, he graduated from Fortier High School and then briefly attended Tulane University. He joined his father and brother in the insurance business and was a partner of Bodet Brothers Insurance Agency from 1950-1990. He was a former president of St. Philip Neri's men's organization and chairman of the first Archbishop Chapelle school board. Jay was also the 1977 recipient of the Order of St. Louis Award. Those who knew him know that he was an avid LSU fan, he loved to reminisce and tell stories about the great times in his past, and he had a deep affection for his children and grandchildren. Above all, nothing can compare to the undying love he had for his "bride" of 64 years with whom he is now united. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Metairie Rd. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 beginning at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred. Suzanne, This is Wade Coleman. So sorry for your loss. I can't make it Saturday. I remember your dad from the softball years (late '70s) around Metairie in the Tuesday night league. I probably knew him before I knew you were his daughter. Enjoyed him very much. Prayers.

Dear Bodet Family,
May god wrap his arms around you all in this time of saidness & grief. I moved on Smith Dr. after the storm & my kids were young they would go down & visit your mom & dad. They were both the nicest people. My family & I enjoyed being there neighbor. Your dad will be missed.
With warm regards,
Sue Tiblier

Suzanne, I use to be Sister Ann at St. Phillip Neri and I taught you there. I just read about your Dad and I wanted to offer my sincere condolences at this time of pain. You had wonderful parents and your Dad was very active in the Catholic Church. He will be blessed for all that he has done. Know that he dances with your Mom in the ballroom of Heaven. Let your good memories carry you through your days of sadness. The Lord will walk with you, holding your hand and leading you on your own journey to The New Jerusalem. Peace be with you and your family! My love, care and prayers always!
