Clara Lackey Obituary

Clara Belle (Smith)Lackey, passed away, peacefully and went to be with the Lord on, Tuesday, July 13, 2021, in Conroe, Texas, at the age of 75.

Clara was born, on October 24, 1945, in Ashland, Mississippi, to James Joseph Henry Smith and Clara (Brisco) Smith. She was the youngest of 16 children.

She married Cecil Clark Lackey, on November 25, 1964, in Corinth, Mississippi. They were married 46 years, until his passing in 2011.

Clara was a simple woman with a simple life. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, and even her doctors and their staff. She cherished spending time with her family and loved looking at photos and videos of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clara had an extra-special relationship with her son, Lee, who served as her primary caretaker and best friend. She looked forward to a daily phone call from her sister, Sue, before Sue's passing last year. She also delighted in calls from her niece, Patsy. Clara flew on her first airplane at the age of 71, to visit her sister and other family, in Tennessee. It was an experience that she would never forget. She enjoyed listening to the Gaither's and Don Ho, she also, enjoyed watching cooking shows and Hallmark movies, but her favorite show was Grizzly Adams. Clara was passionate about reading her Bible daily, and when her eyesight began to deteriorate, she insisted on listening to it on audio. As a child, Clara was nicknamed "Blondie," and as a greeter at Conroe's Incredible Pizza for years, Clara was known as "Grandma" to many. Clara never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile and an encouraging word. She will always be remembered for her generosity, thoughtfulness, and kindness.

Clara is survived by her son, James Lackey and wife Alesia; son, Harold "Lee" Lackey; son, Tim Lackey and wife Shelby. Six grandchildren: Corey Lackey, Chelsi Kendrick, Chad Lackey, Caleb Lackey, Kassidy Lackey, and Alec Lackey. Six great grandchildren: Levi Kendrick, Luke Kendrick, Norah Lackey, Paxton Lackey, Cole Kendrick, and Carson Kendrick. Sibling: Fred H. Smith and wife Gail, of Hernando, Mississippi. Her niece Patsy and husband David, as well as many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Smith, her husband, Cecil Lackey. Siblings: Hermon Smith, Thomas Smith, James Earl Smith, S.A. Smith, Lovie Hopkins, Dewy Smith, James Curtis Smith, Elsie McClain, Ines Smith, Cordis Smith, William Smith, Wade Smith, Alta Morse (Sue), and Edward Smith.
