Frank Simonton Obituary

Frank was the eldest of three children, born in Ruston, Louisiana on December 22, 1942, to Gertude and Frank Simonton Sr. Frank and his family relocated to the Lake Charles area early in his life where he graduated from Sulphur High School in 1960. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from McNeese State University and his Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Frank was a member of both the Louisiana and Texas State Bar Associations and held Certified Public Accountant licenses in Louisiana and Texas. In addition, Frank was a Securities Representative holding Series 7 and Series 66 licenses and a Personal Financial Specialist designation. Frank began his early career with Peat Marwick LLP and was the Controller at Sara Mayo Hospital in New Orleans. After relocating to Houston, Frank worked at Touche Ross & Co. before joining Arendale & Young. The Firm subsequently affiliated with London based Moore Stephens before ultimately becoming Simonton & Kutac LLP in the late 1990s. Frank served as the managing partner of Simonton & Kutac LLP until his retirement in 2019. He had many client relationships that extended over four decades.

Frank married his best friend, Carol Jean Pfauser on August 19, 1964. After their early years together in New Orleans, Carol and Frank relocated to Houston, Texas in 1973. They initially settled in Northhampton before eventually relocating to their longtime home located in Kingwood in 1981. While in Kingwood, Frank was actively involved with coaching in the Kingwood/ Forest Cove Baseball Association during Frank III's youth and later became heavily involved on the Board of the Kings Forest Community Association. Frank and Carol are also members of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood. They developed many close friendships over the years in both Northhampton and Kingwood.

Frank was a tremendously dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Although he was very accomplished in his career, he was most proud of his family. He was a voracious reader of history books and loved to travel. Carol and Frank took many trips to Europe in their later years with friends from Tauck Tours. Frank had a lifelong love of baseball and became a fan of the Houston Astros after settling in Houston. He and Carol were also original season ticket holders of the New Orleans Saints in 1967 and Frank remained a lifelong supporter of Louisiana State University and the Tigers.

His memory will be kept alive by his best friend and wife, Carol Simonton; daughter, Robyn Simonton Drost, son, Frank Hamilton Simonton III; grandchildren, William Drost, Mairi Simonton, Matthew Drost, Erin Simonton; son-in-law, Jonathan Drost; daughter-in-law, Colleen Simonton; sister, Judith Simonton Rutland; and nieces, Stephanie Slaupas Brock and Teresa Slaupas.
