Harold Lloyd Hill, age 91, of San Antonio, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel with Chief Warrant Officer Joshua Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. There is no set time for visitation.
Harold was born on July 24, 1925 in Mercedes, Texas to the late Lloyd Lowman Hill and Colia Elzora Miller Hill. He attended school and graduated from Edcouch High School in 1943. Harold joined the US Navy on July 19, 1943, right after high school, serving until March 8, 1946 as a Motor Machinist's Mate Second Class. During World War II, Harold served aboard a Naval Troop Transport and he participated in the Normandy landings, Operation Overload, "D-Day", June 6, 1944. He married Gladys Ann Nunnelly on February 28, 1950. Harold attended college at the University of Houston. He was an electrical mechanic/engineer for onshore and offshore oil rigs for 46 years, retiring in 1992. Harold was a member, deacon, and a choir member of Thee Evergreen Church of Coldspring, Texas, and was also a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Hill; son, Charles Edward Hill; and sister, Mary Frances Center.
Harold is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Hill Bridgforth and Evelyn Hill Johnston; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
