James Dewie Berwick, 87 years old, went to join our Lord after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease on the afternoon of Monday, December 4, 2017. He was a long time resident of Humble, Tx. James leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Dean Berwick, and their 4 daughters and son in laws: Cindy and Leon VanMeter, Gaye and Rob Leonhard, Sharon and Louis Matthews, and Alicia and Gary Wise, his brother and sister in law Jimmy and Evadell Berwick, along with countless nieces and nephews, 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. James was among the first young men to be in the Air Force and held the rank of corporal in the Korean War as an MP and cook. After surviving the war, he went on to become a master machinist at Grey Tool Company - later known as Vetco Grey and Baker Hughes - for 40 years. He loved old westerns, camping with family and watching football. He is preceded in his journey with our Lord by his parents: Eli and Christine (Williams) Berwick, sisters: Ida Maude Wright, Earnestine Knight, and Charlene Simpson and brother: Virgil Berwick. James loved spending time with family, especially the grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 5:00-8:00pm and Services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston at 2:00pm.

I saw Dad about a week before he passed on. He was quiet and barely eating, but I think he knew it was Gaye and I who were there with him.
As part of our relationship revolved around Houston sports, I showed him the final play of this year's world series, when the Astros won their first title ever after 55 years. He looked at the video, raised his fist and shook it, as if to say "Yeah, Astros, you finally finished the race!"
Dad finished the course with a love and understanding of God, just as the Apostle Paul knew he would soon finish well upon parting with the Ephesians. (Acts 20:24)
We will miss you James D. Berwick, but see you soon...

Dad we sure are going to miss you, even thou you are now in a better place and are no longer in pain, it still breaks my heart, so much of the person I grew up to be is because of you, you were such a good Dad, so many good memories from my childhood, enjoy Christmas in heaven, you get to celebrate with our Heavenly Father, that does give me some comfort, but I still miss you, always Loved you always will, the cute one, lol
