Mary Ellen Burton Sabrsula, age 71, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 29, 2016, in Austin, Texas. Ellen was born on September 7, 1945, in Humble, TX, to Mary and Floyd Burton, both educators with the Humble ISD. After Dr. Burton's untimely death in 1961, the family moved to Katy, TX, where Ellen finished her last couple of years of high school, graduating in 1964. Much later, she returned to Katy to raise her three daughters. She was employed by Campbell Concrete Company until her retirement in the spring of 2016.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Floyd Burton, Jr., and granddaughter Kacy Angelica Huddle. Left to remember her laughter and continual smiles are her daughters: Pamela Sabrsula and partner Alvin Mendoza of San Antonio, TX; Evelyn and husband Robert Hill of Lago Vista, TX; and Cynthia Bennett of Austin, TX. Her memory will also be treasured by her seven beloved grandchildren and great-grandson, and her three siblings: Sally Johnson and husband Steve of Kingwood, TX; Joan Caldwell and husband Harry of Houston, TX; Garland Burton and wife Carolyn of Elgin, TX, as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Ellen was often described as a happy, sweet, kind, and compassionate person. She didn't want anyone to mourn her loss, but to be happy and celebrate. Please join us in that celebration in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Humble, 800 Main St., at 3:00 p.m. on February 5, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association.

May I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends. Death at any age is difficult. May you find comfort from these words: From the power of the Grave I will redeem them; From death I will recover them. Where are your stings, O Death? You can be sure these words will come true because God cannot lie.

Ellen was a beautiful lady. I have known Ellen for over 50 years. She was always loving and kind. Her sense of humor was another quality that endeared her to others. Love.
