Paul Monroe Pittman

1949 - 2022

Paul Monroe Pittman of Atascocita, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2022, following a long illness.

Paul was born on August 24, 1949, the son of Pitser "Pitt" Pittman and Eulalia "Lala" Pittman. The family lived in the Texas cities of Freer and Midland before moving to Ardmore, Oklahoma, when Paul was a sophomore in high school. While a student at AHS, Paul played football and baseball, and graduated in the class of 1968. During his time in Ardmore, Paul made many close, lifelong friends. Outgoing, gregarious, and friendly, Paul loved being with people, and enjoyed golf, waterskiing, boating, tennis, hunting and fishing. Later in life, he and his wife drove across the country in their motorhome, visiting friends and family.

He attended St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, and the University of Oklahoma. He graduated from St. Edward's University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Upon graduation he was in the final draft call lottery of the Vietnam era and served in the Army Reserve.

Early in Paul's career he was employed by the Texas Liquor Control Board as an auditor. He later became a partner in Ron & Pitt's Liquor Store in Corpus Christi and managed the Leopard Street location.

Having been raised in the "oil patch," Paul found it was in his blood. He sold his share in the liquor store and took a position as a service consultant and sales representative with the firm of Rucker Atlas Bradford. Later, a friend steered him toward an outside sales position with Vinson Supply Company, which became a long, rewarding, and successful career that Paul enjoyed until his retirement. During his career at Vinson, the company transferred him and his family to Denver and to Bakersfield, California, and then back to the Houston area. He and his family resided in Atascocita, Kingwood and Montgomery.

Paul is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Darlynn Roan of Ardmore, whom he married in 1975, and their two children, Hal Pittman and Desiree Pittman Moore. Hal, his wife Laura Pittman, and their daughters Tessa and Madelyn, reside in Rogers, Arkansas. Desiree, her husband Nicolas Moore, and their sons Edward and Alex, reside in Atascocita, Texas.

Paul is also survived by two older sisters, Pamela Pozzi and Jane Hernandez. He was a loving and devoted uncle to his two nephews, Jeffrey Pozzi and Jonathan Pozzi and nieces, Tracy Solares and Kelly Donnelly and their families.

Paul suffered from Alzheimer's disease and most recently resided and was lovingly cared for at The Bradford Memory Care in Atascocita, Texas.

A service honoring Paul's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 5 at Saint Mary Church in Plantersville, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Paul's memory to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org/).
