Preston Benton, 85, of Roman Forest, Texas passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 19, 1930 to Mancil George and Elizabeth (Lakey) Benton on their family ranch in Dewville, Gonzales County, Texas. He worked as a rancher before he went to serve in the U.S. Army. Preston worked as a manager for finance companies, as an examiner for Texas Savings and Loan, he and his wife worked together as realtors in Lake Arrowhead, California. Preston retired in 1998 as a deputy for the Harris County Sheriff's Department. In Preston's retirement, traveling was his passion and he will be remembered as a seasoned and loyal cruiser of NCL, RCCL, and Princess. Preston is survived by his wife of 37 years, Penny; his daughter Deborah Monroe and her husband Herman; his sons, Kenneth Preston Benton and his wife Charmaine, Mark Phillip Benton, Matthew Paul Benton and his wife Kimberly; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-granchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and his two sisters Susie Ashorn and JoBeth Vidas. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2015. A funeral service will start at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2015. There will be another hour of visitation time following the service. All services will be held at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, Texas 77339. There will be no burial following the service and the family would like to ask that in lieu of flowers please make a donation in Preston's name to Friends for Life for he was an avid animal lover, Alzheimer's Association Houston Chapter, or Harris County Sheriff's Department.
