Richard Chill Obituary

Richard Anthony Chill, 80, was born January 29, 1941 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to Nicholas Chill and Lucy Print Chill. He passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021, in LaPorte, Texas. Richard was the third of twelve children.

Growing up, Dick, as he was called for most of his life, had an exciting childhood as a young Italian boy in a large Catholic family. As an adult, he referred to his father Nick as a Saint, and his mother Lucy as the enforcer! Nick read The Bible and did good works to help other families. Lucy would find and confiscate some weed & paraphernalia left around by one of the boys, and wrap it up and give it to him as a gift, or sell it back to him. Dick and Tom would run home to tell their father that they saw the Priests drinking at a local bar, and father Nick would just reply, "Don't worry about the Priests, just look to Jesus"! When Dick talked about his childhood, the story would not be complete without him telling you that breakfast on the weekend would be a large bowl of "Chuckles" in the middle of the table. Chuckles consisted of stale bread, cut in cubes, served in a bowl of warm tea and sugar, topped with butter. And if you got to the table late, there would not be any left for you! He also talked about his Grandpa Ciello, who came from the old country on the boat. When Grandpa came through Immigration on Ellis Island, the clerks did not know how to spell Ciello, so they wrote down Chill. When Lucy's family came through the same port of entry, their name was Parente, and the clerks wrote down Print.

After High School, Dick served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp as an E-5 Sergeant from 1959-1965, stationed in Ankara, Turkey. After a short visit with the family in Pennsylvania, he headed to California for fame and fortune. It was there that he met and married Elizabeth Ann Elliott in 1965. Dick and Ann had three children, Steven, Anthony, and Christy. Dick received his Associate in Arts Degree from Cal State Fullerton in 1969. While in California, he worked in managerial positions for Altec Lansing, Inc. located in Anaheim, United Process Control Systems, Inc. in Santa Ana and Fibre Glass-Evercoat Company, Inc. in Orange.

Dick was devoted to family his entire life. All three of his children recall that their dad worked hard for his young family and was always involved in their lives and activities. In his spare time Dick enjoyed fishing, boating, and flying. He restored a new Skipjack Cabin Cruiser after it was salvaged from the waters near Cabo in Mexico, where it had sunk, and he brought it to Houston when he relocated, docking it at the marina across from South Shore Harbor. Dick's first solo flight was to Catalina Island, 22 miles across the coast of California. The landing runway drops off at the end, appearing to disappear into the ocean, which was no small concern for Dick's Flight Instructor when he found out after the fact. You could call him Mr. Fearless, as he was known to have many such escapades in his life packed with adventure. Ask anyone who knew him, Dick was ALL IN when it came to having fun! And his sense of humor was an endearing quality, noticed even towards the end by the Caretakers who looked after him at home and when he moved into a Personal Care Home.

In 1992, Dick relocated to Houston to manage a business for his former boss after the breakup of his marriage to Ann. Dick met Edie and in 1994 they became Mr. & Mrs. Richard Chill. During his life in Texas, Dick changed his nickname to Rich and there is an interesting story behind this, which you will have to wonder about. Fishing and boating on Clear Lake became his passion, although the stories of life

on the water in Texas could not compare to the fond memories he had of Cali and Cabo. Oh, the stories! He was quite the storyteller. And quite the life of any party. However there was another side to this man. He was a hard worker. He was a Jack of All Trades and could fix or build anything. His motto was, "if it's broke, I can fix it" and he was right. Rich was generous with his time and his money. He became a valued and loyal part of the Ministry of Helps at Living Stones Church in Alvin, and Living Faith Outreach in Dickinson. He "adopted" Edie's family and became Papa to Katie's children. Every year, Rich would go to California and Arizona to spend Christmas and special occasions with his family there, and every summer he would go to Pennsylvania for the Chill-Print Family Reunion.

In 1996 Rich joined Edie in her fledgling business, Your LifeStyle Interiors, located in Friendswood Texas, to help build the retail window covering and design company into the thriving business it is today.

Rich is survived by his second wife Edie Chill, of Seabrook TX, his first wife Ann Chill of Surprise AZ, son Steven Chill and wife Lisa, and their children Andrew and Katelyn of Surprise AZ, son Anthony (Tony) Chill and wife Kathy of Santa Barbara, CA, daughter Christy Scott-Watson and husband John, of Bagdad, AZ., and her children Hannah Scott of Prescott, AZ and Jacob Scott, of Yorba Linda, CA., Edie's daughter, Katie Woodside-Holder and husband Matt of League City TX, her children Koree Woodside, of Alvin, TX, Kirstyn Woodside and partner Hunter Loupe and their daughter Harlyn, of Alvin, TX and Rian Woodside of League City TX. Brothers Tom, David, Regis and Marty Chill, and sisters Rita, Cathy Milligan, Susan, Evie Ciccone and Christine Fischer of Pennsylvania and Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He lived his life to the fullest and served people with a generous heart, and he will live on in our memories and hearts.
